  Another scripture that has questionable language with regard to satan

  of course even people with novice level bible understanding know that paul had a "thorn in the flesh", what they may not know, or not have bothered to also observe is the bizarre language with which was used to convey this thought.. "turn with me in your bibles please to 2corinthians 12:7" <----lol.

  an "angel of satan" was sent to paul.......hmmm, were the writers of the bible apostates?

  they called satan's minion an angel?

  I shunned an older man when I was 19. I felt bad about it then and feel bad about it and

  regret it today.

  The older man was disfellowshipped for smoking.

  I saw him sitting in the coffee shop and he was trying to wave hello without

  talking and I didnt know what to do other than look away.

  He was also a friend of the family on the non JW side.

  So sorry for being unkind and so glad I have been out of the tower since 83.

  i'm low on friends, for various reasons.

  scientists poke their calculators into everything, and the number of friends we can have is one of them.

  I have a lot of acquaintances but I don't have any friends.

  I'm fine with that at 60 years old.

  When I worked at the county jail, midnights, I could talk all night long to most anybody

  who came through the door and find out a lot about a person. But still I only consider them acquaintances.

  I may or may not do favors for them and they may or may not do favors for me.

  Oh I forgot I have 114 friends of facebook and 15,245 on Myspace.

  what is on your "to read" list in the immediate future?.

  When I was a Jail Guard/ Detention Officer on the midnight shift I was able to read 5 to 6 hours a night.

  Now that I have retired and don't get paid to read I have a hard time cracking a book on my dime.

  But my recent purchases sitting here are "The Source" by James Michner, "The Best of Lester Del Rey",

  "The Autobiography of Benjamin Frankin", "Peoples History of the United States" by Howard Zinn,

  "100 Great Science Fiction Short Stories" edited by Isaac Asimov.

  All these great books sitting here makes me want to go back to work midnights so I can get

  paid to read them.

  i am so out of touch with tv shows and i have got a lot of catching up to do.. some-one suggested dexter and it was fantastic and what an ending.

  Breaking Bad is great.

  I retired this past March. I hadn't watched much tV during my working life.

  My son told me about Breaking bad. I never saw such a good tv show in my life.

  I watched 4 seasons I am waiting for the 5th season to come on netflix and they are

  going to have a 6th season this summer.

  Another good series on netflix is Prison Break.

  My wife and I have access to recent movies and many tv shows thru net flex and I tunes.

  We would rather watch 3 or 4 commercial less episodes of Breaking Bad or Prison Break than

  watch most of the new movies that are out there. Those 2 shows are better than most first run movies

  in our oppinion and we watch 2 first run video releases a week and have for the past 30 years.

  Why Do People Kill?

  i know that killing has gone on since the beginning of time.. but i wonder why some people kill?.

  are they typically screwy in the head?.

  are they just angry at the world or their family member or their boss?.

  The simple answer to why do people kill Is Society does not provide enough of the needs listed in Maslows hiearchy of

  needs to enough people.

  I had a career as a detention officer in Florida. I've known and dealt with several killers.

  1 was a cop killer. He had a home a family, the cop stopped to question him and he shot the cop dead. The killer had a home and family.

  He told me he didn't do it. But there was a lot of incriminating evidence.

  2 was a man who was jealous of his girl friend and he cut her head off.

  3 was a guy who just picked up a gun and shot his friend.

  I heard many conversations between inmates saying they will cap his ass, shoot someone, kill someone.

  I worked midnights and would stand or sit outside cells and listen to the stories and talk. They didnt know I was there.

  Street people, people from the burg, gang bangers, people who wear their pants so low they cant run from the Police.

  City people shoot and cut each other just as a matter of routine.

  Just in everyday conversation they will say "you do this I'll cut you", "I'm gonna cap your/his ass"

  they talk about it and they do it.

  Not all of them kill their victims, street/ city people gang bangers most cant shoot a gun straight. They hold the gun side ways when they shoot.

  The county jail is full of killers who didnt kill their vicims because they only wounded them because they cant shoot straight.

  Sometimes they will shoot you in the leg or knee not to kill, or they will stab you not to kill. And because they cant shoot straight

  they end up killing someone.

  I will say it is my opinion after a career in law enforcement inside the county jail that Jesus God and religion probably

  could reduce some of the killing and criminal behavior. When the preachers come into jail to hold church and meetings

  many of the inmates are ignorant of the message. The message, Jesus does change lives.

  I know there are killers that know of Jesus and kill, but I think that believing in Jesus as opposed to knowing Jesus

  does make a difference.

  I think knowing and believing the God of the New Testament, Jesus has the effect of taking the animal out of the man.

  I say this not intellectually, I say this reflecting on my career behind bars. And things I have seen.

  Intellectually relying on my own thinking and understanding of books and papers I read it would be very easy

  for me to be an atheist and conclude there is no God.

  From an intellectual point of view as a detention officer we are trained before we hit the floor that peoples doing

  wrong can be based on Maslows hiearchy of needs. The more needs an individual has met the less likely he will

  committ antisocial behavior.

  So to answer your question why do people kill?

  Society does not provide enough of Malows needs to enough people for people to be behave.

  My wife and I knew a lot of people when we were witnesses.

  We went to a lot of picnics and partys and out to dinner a lot.

  It was fine at the time. I dont miss it today.

  but i read this article in the economist today that argued it is only a matter of time until china and japan exchange shots over some small islands in between the two countries, it could escalate to full scale war, and the united states is treaty bound to come to aid of japan.

  on top of that the united states is making diplomatic visits to various countries borderning china in a move that is viewed extremely negatively in beijing.

  Some one always prospers.
